I saw this on sale tonight and I almost couldn’t believe it. The audacity, Forever 21. Cultural appropriation all in the name of good, clean, fashionable fun! I really wanted to go up to an employee and give them a piece of my mind, but they wouldn’t “get it”—they would fail to comprehend the racial essentialism implicit in such a degrading product. But even consumers should know better; instead, we continue to live in a country where apathy and ignorance reign supreme and companies like the aforementioned Shit Hole 21 incessantly reinforce hegemonic norms by unabashedly capitalizing on and subsequently trivializing the rich histories and cultures of the indigenous backbone of this nation.
This is horrible.
